Oklahoma’s Other Lives has accomplished something rather odd, strangely intriguing, and maybe even sometimes beautiful, with their new album, Tamer Animals. I call it “lush monotony.” It’s like a black and white movie in hi-def 3-D. It’s full-blown dreary indie pop (complete with a vocalist named Jesse Tabish who will legitimately make you wonder whether or not he is even awake) meets luscious and sweeping string arrangements, orchestral-esque percussion, and instrumental breaks that might even, dare I say, get a little adventurous! (Be careful! Don’t wake Jesse!)
In the end, I just fell asleep. But it was a pretty great nap.
